Abstract
View PDFThe timely accessibility of effective and reliable respiratory assistance systems is a key issue, especially in resource-constrained healthcare facilities. The conventional respirators being expensive and complicated in nature, as well as requiring trained professionals to operate, pose significant barriers in accessing care in many emergency and rural settings. Conventional manual ventilation is cumbersome, unreliable, and does not have the facility to monitor patients in real-time, thus posing safety risks under different situations. The objective of this research paper is to introduce a cost-effective artificial ventilator system utilizing embedded and mechatronics principles that is capable of providing effective respiratory assistance. The proposed artificial ventilator is controlled by the STM ARM microcontroller, which facilitates the control of airflow, pressure, and breathing cycles through the use of motorized ambu bags. Sensor modules, incorporating pressure, flow sensors, and the KS6020 module, ensure real-time monitoring of vital parameters like oxygen saturation (SpO₂), heart rate, and body temperature. The suggested solution further employs closed-loop control systems to ensure steady performance according to the changing needs of the patients. From the experimental findings, it can be concluded that the system provides a consistent flow of air into the lungs, monitors vital signs precisely, and responds effectively to any anomalies. This low- cost and portable artificial respirator can be employed in rural health care facilities and home health care scenarios for emergency purposes.
